Attractions of East Point, Georgia

East Point is located in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. At the 2020 census, East Point had 38,358 people. Named after the location of East Point at the opposite end on the former Atlanta & West Point Railroad. It was home to the city’s first inhabitants in the 1880s.

Today, however, the area is a major commercial center and has many restaurants and coffee shops. East Point has a population of around 23,000 students and is a major college town. East Point was founded in 1870 by 16 families. The town soon had its share industry, with two gristmills and a distillery.

East Point also housed the Atlanta & West Point Railroad and several manufacturing companies. It also had a post office. There was a school, sawmill and even a newspaper in the community. Camp Creek Marketplace has a variety of restaurants and stores. Target, Old Navy and Starbucks are all within walking distance.

In Downtown East Point, you’ll find restaurants such as Ruby Tuesday. It has seen a revitalization in recent years. There are many beauty and clothing shops nearby. It is possible to take a stroll through the historic downtown and explore the area.

Dick Lane Velodrome

Anyone who has ever been to this event before can recall the great atmosphere created by the cycling racers racing around the track at 60 km/h with no brakes and one gear.

In 1974, the Dick Lane Velodrome was constructed. The design was inspired by the 1972 Munich Olympics in Germany. The concrete track banks 36deg are located in East Point’s Sumner Park. It spans 300m and is an amphitheatre design. The open-air velodrome hosts regular races.

Starlight’s flea marketplace may be open to food vendors, but they can’t compete with East Point Farmers Market for the variety of foodstuffs and growers available.

College Park Golf Course

The nine-hole course, which was constructed in the early 1900s, measures 2,987 meters (2,731 metres) and is par 36.

While it is still a sport, the College Park Golf Course, located about 2 miles from East Point, keeps the theme going. Although the course is only nine holes long it has an undulating fairway, raised greens and some of the most challenging courses in Atlanta.
